What is an arrhythmia?

An arrhythmia is any kind of heart rhythm problem, which are many and varied. They can be caused by extra heart beats (ectopics), sustained periods of heart racing (tachycardia) and also slow heart beats (bradycardia). These problems can be benign (not serious) but in some cases can be serious and even life-threatening.
